According to the British press, Ferrari is considering developing turbo engines and the company’s lead developer in this area said this has to come eventually. However, Ferrari still has issues regarding the lag that affects turbocharged engines. They believe that any delay when it comes to power is unacceptable. Jean-Jacques, the lead engine developer at Ferrari, said they tried to put Fiat's Multiair technology in an F430, but they failed to make it work at the required power levels. He also said the main benefit of this technology comes in torque, but it's difficult to make it work at high revs.
Apart from the fact that Ferrari is considering turbo engines, Jean-Jacques also mentioned that the company's dual-clutch transmission can be applied to their V12 engines. Currently, Ferrari's dual-clutch gearbox is available only on V8 engines.
