Opel revealed today a new version of the Insignia, which is called the Country Tourer. The Opel Insignia Country Tourer, which is basically an all-road version of the Insignia station wagon, is going to have its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall. It will probably go on sale soon after. In comparison to the estate version of the Insignia, the Country Tourer has a higher ground clearance and various protective body elements. The Insignia Country Tourer will come with a 4x4 drivetrain and with a choice between a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed automatic transmission. Opel is going to sell the Country Tourer Insignia with a choice between a petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol version of the Insignia Country Tourer is powered by a 2.0 SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) turbocharged engine that's good for 184 kW/250 hp and 400 Nm of torque.
The diesel model comes with a 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI engine that puts out 143 kW/195 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The Insignia Country Tourer is going to be available with a second diesel engine. This is a 2.0 CDTI (with single tailpipe) unit that develops 120 kW/163 hp and 350 Nm (380 Nm on overboost) of torque.
Opel's Country Tourer Insignia comes with 20 mm higher ride height in comparison to the estate, and larger tires. Various protective body parts include under-body guards for the front and the rear, wider wheel arches, and body cladding. The Insignia Country Tourer is also fitted with dual exhaust tailpipes.
Opel equips the Insignia Country Tourer with an electronically controlled 4x4 drivetrain, a stronger Haldex clutch, and an electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD). The car can distribute the torque between the axles from zero to 100 percent. The Country Tourer is built on an electronically controlled FlexRide chassis.
The Opel Insignia Country Tourer's price is going to be announced at a later date.
