Apart from the high speed rally action, the 2011 Pikes Peak Hill Climb also offered some less fortunate moments. One of these is Bobby Regester's huge crash in his Pontiac Sunfire race car. In one of the tighter turns, Regester lost control of his Pontiac and drove off the side of the mountain. After rolling a few times, his Sunfire stopped thanks to large boulder. If it wouldn't have been for that boulder, he would've rolled further, and dropped off another crest.
Thanks to the competition toll cage, and other safety systems installed on his Pontiac race car, Bobby walked away from this potential deadly incident with just a few minor injuries.
The Pikes Peak Hill Climb rally is famous for its
difficulty level, and also for the risks it involves. On some sections, drivers race their cars at over 100 mph just a few feet away from the mountain side.
