Apparently, the Porsche 928 may come back in the form of a luxury coupe based on the recently unveiled Porsche Panamera. According to sources inside Porsche, a large three-door coupe is being taken into account, but it can't be approved for production in the current market conditions. To transform the Panamera into a Porsche 928 successor, the company would have re-engineer the four-door's exterior, interior and some of the body structure.
To develop the new Panamera Porsche had to invest huge amounts of capital due to the fact that the model is completely new. Using its platform for a new model seems like a logical step and the replacement of the Porsche 928 might just see the light of day.
However, the company says the Porsche 928 successor hasn't been approved by the Board yet.
