Yes, that's right! Someone did it! The Porsche pick-up truck in the video is based on a Porsche 928 GTS that has been given a third axle. The 'development' of the car took the owner 2 years to complete, and it also passed the German TUV inspection, after Porsche intervention.
The Porsche pick-up truck is 70 cm longer, to accommodate the third axle. It has a 6.1 liter engine (5.4 liter stock) that develops 390 hp (350 hp stock). The displacement and power upgrades were necessary in order to get the same performance as the stock car.
The video also says that the owner earned a lot of respect in Porsche circles for his creation.
For most of us gear heads, seeing a Porsche (not to mention being able to drive one) usually qualifies as a one of the highlights of the day. I bet this applies even for those of you who can afford one. Why would anyone go to extreme lengths to transform a marvel of design and engineering into a truck?
We have to appreciate the skill and (as much as we hate to admit it) engineering that went into this Porsche pick-up truck. There can't be an easy way to achieve this, but why do it?
It's not even practical since the owner/creator admits it's not good at carrying anything.
