Suzuki will premiere a new fuel cell prototype at the G8 summit in Hokkaido, Japan - the Suzuki SX4-FCV. Instead of conventional fuel tanks the Suzuki SX4-FCV is equipped with a 70 megapascals (700 bar) hydrogen tank and a light and compact battery that recycles the surplus energy produced during braking and accelerating. This battery reduces the loading time of the fuel cell.

Since 2001 Suzuki has been involved with fuel cell technology developing the MR Wagon-FCV and the Wagon R-FCV in 2003.

For 2010 Suzuki is developing a new hybrid drive and an extremely economical diesel engine for the D-segment.

The Suzuki SX4-FCV is a 5-seater powered by a 68 kW and a 80 kW fuel cell. The top speed of the Suzuki SX4-FCV is 150 km/h and has a 250 km range.
