Volkswagen has made history yesterday in Argentina, as it claimed the first two places in the Dakar Rally - the first ever diesel-powered victory in world's toughest motorsport event. The first place in this year's event was claimed by De Villiers, his German co-driver Dirk von Zitzewitz and their TDI-engined Volkswagen Race Touareg. The second spot was taken 9 minute later by Volkswagen of USA/South Africa pairing Mark Miller and Ralph Pitchford. the third place went to American Hummer pilot Robby Gordon, who came 100 minutes behind.
The Volkswagen Race Touareg driven through the desert by Dieter Depping and Timo Gottschalk came in 6th, eight hours behind the winner.
