Audi works on Murcielago competitor

Autoblog, based more or less on a rumor, believes that Audi is working on a Murcielago competitor. This might be a whole new V12 powered supercar running on gasoline and not a TDI R8 as some are expecting. The company just recently unveiled the next step in R8's evolution with the V10 powered 5.2 FSI quattro model. The Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro is powered by a 525 hp 5.2 liter engine that gives it a 0 to 100 km/h sprint of 3.9 seconds. It is already dangerously close to the Murcielago that outputs 600+ hp and gets to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.

We guess the people at Lamborghini are not too happy about this prospect. A V12 Audi supercar could be able to go head to head with the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 and this might create some tensions inside the Volkswagen Group.

We expect time will answer the question whether Audi will go ahead with this plan.
