BMW has announced the development of the Emergency Stop Assistant system which activates in case the driver has a serious medical problem. The BMW Emergency Stop Assistant carries out a controlled emergency stop of the car if it detects the driver is unable to stop the car for himself. The BMW Emergency Stop Assistant activates the hazard warning lights and maneuvers the car to the outer edge of the road avoiding traffic.
At the same time, the BMW Emergency Stop Assistant makes an emergency call, also sending data required to initiate the necessary medical and traffic-related assistance measures.
The development of the BMW Emergency Stop Assistant is part of the company's SmartSenior initiative which aims to make life in old age easier and safer.
