The TV advertising campaign for the new Lancia Delta features actor Richard Gere, known for his pro-Tibetan political views. The TV ad shoes Gere driving the new Lancia Delta both in Hollywood and Tibet. Because of the Chinese government’s reaction regarding the Lancia Delta ad the Fiat group had to officially apologize for the spot and distance itself from the views of the American actor.
The Chinese press criticized the spot immediately after its release, especially because Sergio Marchionne said that the Lancia Delta ad is one of the best Fiat ever made.
The conflict between China and Tibet has been generated by the fact that Tibet wants to become and autonomous region.
