The Brits from Autocar announced today they have information the next Mitsubishi Evo XI will have a hybrid powertrain. The Mitsubishi Evo XI hybrid will have the same plug-in technology as the Mitsubishi Concept PX MiEV. This means the next Mitsubishi Evo XI hybrid will have 1.6-liter MIVEC gasoline engine and two electric motors developing 81 hp each. The Mitsubishi Evo XI hybrid will have the same S-AWC transmission and handling systems as the current version, complete with all the technology that goes with it. To power the Mitsubishi Evo XI hybrid, the company will use lithium-ion batteries, obviously.
The same sources say the company expects to unveil the Mitsubishi Evo XI hybrid in 2013, but other rumors say the development of the next generation Evo has stalled.
Although Autocar says this info comes from inside the Japanese carmaker, we believe a hybrid Evo is highly unlikely.
