The VPG MV-1 which represents the first factory built wheelchair accessible vehicle has been unveiled yesterday at The National Council on Independent Living Conference. The unveiling of the VPG MV-1 wheelchair accessible vehicle also coincides with the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The VPG MV-1 wheelchair accessible vehicle has been developed by Vehicle Production Group to help the 14 million American adults who depend on this kind of personal transportation. The VPG MV-1 wheelchair accessible vehicle is the first factory built, and not retro fitted, purpose-built car for people with mobility issues.

The VPG MV-1 wheelchair accessible vehicle price is expected to go under the $40,000 mark when it goes on sale in the fourth quarter of 2010. The vehicle will be available in two trim levels and will be sold at first in the United states only. The VPG MV-1 wheelchair accessible vehicle will be equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), an integrated deployable ramp and an anti-slip floor and ramp surface. The VPG MV-1 wheelchair accessible vehicle will also feature the Q-Straint Wheelchair Restraint Track System, and a 6-way adjustable commercial driver's seat.



The top of the range trim level VPG MV-1 Deluxe will also have a telescoping power access ramp, rear window wiper, cruise control and a cargo area floor trim package.

The VPG MV-1 wheelchair accessible vehicle is powered by a Ford 4.6-liter V8 engine that will be available as gasoline powered or with a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel system.

The VPG MV-1 will be built at the AM General assembly plant in Mishawaka, Indiana, and will be sold in either arctic white, jet black, sterling silver, cherry red or midnight blue.
