Video: Holden Commodore V8 Supercar Explodes After Crash

 »  »  »

During the latest round of the Australian V8 Supercar racing series, V8 Supercar driver Karl Reindler was involved in a crash immediately after the start of the race. As a result of the crash, his Holden Commodore race car caught fire, even though its fuel cells are not suppose to explode upon impact. It took Reindler several seconds to get out of his Holden, as the firefighters were struggling to reach the burning race car. Reindler escaped with only minor injures and so did Steve Owen, the driver who hit him from behind.

Both, Reindler's 600,000 USD Holden Commodore, and Owen's race car were completely destroyed. Fortunately, both drivers were wearing fire suits at the time of the event, which enabled them to walk away unscaved.

Watch Reindler's crash from the 2011 Perth race in the video lower down this page.
