Volkswagen revealed today in Geneva the new Polo BlueGT, which is VW's first vehicle to be equipped with cylinder deactivation. The main highlight of the Volkswagen Polo BlueGT is its 1.4 TSI engine, which develops 103 kW / 140 PS and requires 4.7 liters of fuel per 100 km. The VW Polo BlueGT is rated with a 108 g/km CO2 emissions level. These are the efficiency figures for the manual gearbox version of the BlueGT. The 7-speed dual clutch DSG version has a 4.5 l/100 km fuel consumption in the combined cycle with a 105 g/km CO2 emissions level.

The Polo BlueGT seems combine the best of both worlds. It's moderately efficient, and it offers reasonable performance too. Volkswagen rates the BlueGT Polo with a 210 km/h top speed and a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time of 7.9 seconds.

These numbers are made possible by several technologies. The Volkswagen Polo BlueGT comes with ACT (active cylinder management), direct injection, turbocharging, a Stop/Start system, and battery regeneration as part of the BlueMotion suite of technologies.

The Polo BlueGT's ACT gets enabled between 1,250 rpm and 4,000 rpm, and at torque outputs between 25 Nm and 100 Nm. The ACT disables two of the cylinders when the extra power is not required, and enables them when the driver presses the gas pedal.

The whole process takes between 13 and 36 milliseconds. The Polo BlueGT is smart enough to disable cylinder cutoff completely when it detects you're driving through heavy traffic, or when it detects a sportier driving style. The Polo BlueGT warns the driver about the state of the engine through an indicator located between the hatchback's speedometer and tachometer.

The Volkswagen Polo BlueGT distinguishes it self through various badges, a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, and a 15 mm lower ride height. Its equipment list includes cruise control, and sport seats.

The Polo BlueGT's price list has not been announced, but Volkswagen says it will go on sale this July.
