Originally BMW wanted to present the BMW M1 even before the Detroit Motorshow at the beginning of 2007, but then the M-project was reset "until further notice".
Optically and technically the car is finished, but on the question about the accurate launch date we can only guess. The M GmbH prepared three variants: a Coupe (including BMW M1 GTR), a Cabrio and a E82 Touring. The Touring took care of itself.

The BMW M1 gets the old BMW M3 6-cylinders with 343 HP. |
| With 343 HP, the famous 3.2 Liter 6-cylinders engine from the BMW M3, adjusted in the meantime, the future BMW M1 could accelerate in 5.2 seconds from zero on 100 km/h and despite the somewhat poor aerodynamics could reach 280 km/h . Still better values could be achieved, if BMW would reduce the weight substantialy by introducing carbon fiber elements to the BMW M1. Also optically this car would have to strike a bridge to the unforgotten 2002tii - and naturally also to be more sporty than the hot BMWs from Schnitzer, Koepchen or Alpina. |
Design-wise we expect it to have flared wings, to see the first steps towards adaptive aerodynamics as well as a fat oil pressure control lamp.
All-wheel drive is possible, a 130ti with 306 HP, and also a Cabrio or a Coupe is possible, which could also be a two-seat (Mille Miglia) lightweight construction streamline Speedster on the wheels.
