The latest rumors regarding the Audi e-Tron say it will go on sale in 2012 and that the company plans to sell 1000 units of the new electric model. Company officials say they don't expect the Audi e-Tron to sell in large numbers so the production will be order-based. If the demand will not be high enough, they will stop it's production.
At launch, the Audi e-Tron was rated at 313 hp and an unbelievable 4,500 Nm of torque coming from four electric motors, one for each wheel. However, it seems this incredible torque figure was measured at the wheel, which multiplies it a few time. The actual torque of the Audi e-Tron is somewhere between 300 Nm and 400 Nm. This is enough for a top speed of 248 km and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 4.1 seconds.
The Audi e-Tron price has not been disclosed yet, but taking into account the fact that Audi plans to put it against the Tesla, the price should also be a close match.
