Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Managment at BMW, announced that the company is planning to introduce by 2011-2012 a new near-zero emission vehicle - the BMW Megacity. The BMW Megacity is the second model in the company's Project i philosophy to introduce a new range of city vehicles with near zero emissions. The first one is already in testing - the Mini E.
The BMW Megacity will offer the choice of driving 100% based on electricity, or with a very efficient combustion engine.
The company expects the BMW Megacity will enter the production line sometime after 2010. UPDATE: We have recently learned that the BMW i3 will be the name of the production version.
