Yes, the engineers from AC Schnitzer took the 5.0-liter diesel engine, which powers the mighty M550d, X5 M50d and X6 M50d, and put it in the tiny BMW Z4. This makes the Z4 Bimmer the most powerful diesel model in its class. Too bad the AC Schnitzer BMW Z4 50d is a one-off. The basis for this project was the BMW Z4 sDrive 23i (E89), which has been modified from the bottom up. In standard form, this engine develops 280 kW/381 hp between 4,000 - 4,400 rpm, and a massive 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque between 2,000 – 3 000 rpm. AC Schnitzer modified it and it now puts out 316 kW/430 hp and 840 Nm of torque. The AC Schnitzer BMW Z4 50d is equipped with the rear axle gear and the limited slip diff from an M3, and, instead of the manual transmission, with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
According to AC Schnitzer, their Z4 50d Bimmer is able to accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds. they also claim it can reach a top speed of 300 km/h.
AC Schnitzer made countless other modifications too. The electrohydraulic metal folding roof and the boot lid of the Z4 have been replaced with CFC ones for a 90 kg weight reduction. The exhaust has been replaced with a sport one that weighs just 4 kg instead of 23 kg. The 19-inch alloys save an additional 25 kg.
In total, AC Schnitzer's BMW Z4 50d is 131 kg lighter, despite the added weight of the massive diesel engine.
The AC Schnitzer BMW Z4 50d comes with a fully adjustable suspension that lowers the Z4's ride height by 30 mm, bigger brakes, and a new carbon fiber body kit. The AC Schnitzer BMW Z4 50d's body kit includes front and rear spoilers, sports fenders, a new bonnet with vents, and a two-piece rear spoiler. For the interior of their Z4 Bimmer, AC Schnitzer chose carbon racing bucket seats, aluminum pedals, and other bespoke trim parts.
