Citroen Traction Avant turns 75

The Citroen Traction Avant, known as the Gangster Citroen, turns 75 and to celebrate its birthday, the Auto and Technik Museum Sinsheim will hold a series of events. The Citroen Traction Avant was launched in May 1934 and for 23 years it was produced virtually unchanged. At the time of its launch, the Citroen Traction Avant was considered to be a technical milestone as it featured a self-supporting body, the front independent suspension, hydraulic brakes and front-wheel drive.

The Citroen Traction Avant was available with 1303cc engine developing 32 hp, a 1529cc engine with 35 hp and a 1911cc unit with 46 hp.

In 1938 the Traction Avant received a 2867cc engine which developed 77 hp. With this new unit the car could get to a top speed of 130 km/h.
