The U.S. National Federation of the Blind (NFB) has announced that it has entered a partnership with the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, College of Engineering (Virginia Tech)for the development of the first road legal vehicle for the Blind. The car of choice is a Ford Escape which will be modified so blind people will be able to drive it safely on public roads.
The Ford Escape for the blind will be demonstrated as part of the pre-race activities of the 2011 Rolex 24 At Daytona. The Ford Escape for the blind is equipped with nonvisual interface technology and will be driven by a visually challenged person on the Daytona International Speedway course on January 29, 2011.
The exact technical details of the Ford Escape for the blind have not been released yet and we have to admit, they really made us curious.
