Ford has unveiled today the new Explorer Sport (2013), which is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. Apart from the turbocharged engine, the 2013 Ford Explorer Sport also features various distinctive interior and exterior styling elements. Ford's Explorer Sport develops 350 hp and it's equipped with a four-wheel-drive system and a Terrain Management System. Ford is very optimistic when it comes to its mileage. The new Explorer Sport (2013) is rated with a 16-mpg fuel economy in the city and a 22-mpg fuel consumption on the highway. Thanks to the 3.16 to 1 final drive ratio of its 6-speed SelectShift Automatic gearbox, the Ford Explorer Sport manages to offer economical low-rpm cruising.
Ford's Sport Explorer is much stiffer than the standard version, which improves its handling and increases its cornering speed.
The SUV is equipped with electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), and has larger brakes than the regular Explorer. For rough terrain, Ford gave it a few special terrain management settings (sandy, snowy, rutted mud and hill descent).
