Gary Formato, Vic Maharaj and Michael Formato announced today a new racing series, called the Global Touring Car series. This new racing series is going to feature 500bhp V8-powered cars and it promises a return to real racing values. It also promises to be "free of red tape and muddied regulations for competitors and investors alike". The Global Touring Car series is going to start this year in South Africa. GTC (Global Touring Car) will include compact, mid-sized sedans that are power by V8 engines with power outputs around 500 bhp. The engines have to be mated to sequential-shift gearboxes and a rear-wheel-drive system. All the cars are going to have the same space frame chassis, but the teams can choose whatever body they want.

The chassis has been designed to accept Original Equipment body panels based on versions of most saloon or hatchback-sized vehicles on the market.

To demonstrate the concept, they revealed this Ford Focus Global Touring Car, which is based on the 2012 version of the sedan. This Ford Focus GTC comes with a wide body kit, new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, a massive rear wing and a slightly modified bonnet. At the interior, the Ford Focus GTC comes with a full roll cage and a single sport bucket seat. There's also a side exhaust system. We'll have more detail about the Ford Focus Global Touring Car as soon as they're available.
