Magna Steyr Copster

The two-seater, made by Austrian firm Magna Steyr, has a novel folding roof which delivers four bodystyles.

First is the traditional coupé, but activate the hydraulic rams at the touch of a button, and the model is transformed into the Copster. Then, the rear window folds flat behind the driver, leaving occupants with a full open-top roadster.

The mechanism can also draw the roof back over passengers, but leave the rear glass down for what the company is calling the Landaulet. The design team behind the Mila Future claims the innovative system requires far fewer motors and hinges than traditional folding hard-tops, saving weight and liberating at least 20 per cent more

luggage space than metal-lidded cabrios offer. The rest of the exterior has been kept low-key, as the stylists wanted all the attention to be focused on the special hood.

Engineers at Magna's Vienna factory believe the idea can be adapted for any roofless sports car, and the firm is believed to be in talks with a number of major manufacturers.
