In the video after the jump Dr Gunter Karl from Daimler explains the technology behind the Mercedes DiesOtto engine. The Mercedes DiesOtto engine takes the best features of both worlds - the petrol and diesel engines. It features the good torque and fuel economy from the conventional diesel powerplant and the good power output, low emissions and the lower cost of the petrol engine.
The Mercedes DiesOtto unit is currently under development, being implemented in the Mercedes F700 concept car, and, as Dr Gunter says, it will be ready for production in a few years.
