The Sigma GTE is a new electric sports car prototype developed by the US-based Sigma Motorworks company. The Sigma GTE is powered by two Advance Motors DC motors connected directly to the front and rear differentials. The Sigma GTE doesn’t have a gearbox and each of its motors outputs 100 hp each, running at 144V.

For better safety and interior quality, the company built the Sigma GTE using a Ford Mustang cockpit that offers four seats. The body of the Sigma GTE has been designed in-house by the manufacturer and is made from fiberglass.

The company expects the Sigma GTE will have a top speed of 145 mph and a range of about 100 miles.

The Sigma GTE is not yet completed and expects to go testing in James Island (SC), before going on sale in early 2010.

"This project is a test bed for a commercial high performance sports model we will bring to the market by early 2010, when we expect to sell 500 cars”, said Matias Gorfinkiel, head of operations. "This will be one of the fastest electric cars in the world", said Steve Kase, head of development. "And it’s one of the few all-wheel electric cars around", he adds.
