On March 26th, 2009, British engineer Richard Jenkins managed to break the land-speed record for wind-powered vehicles in the Ecotricity Greenbird. The record attempt took place on the dried out lake Ivanpah, where Jenkins took the Ecotricity Greenbird up to a top speed of 126.1 mph (202.9 km/h). The old record dates from 10 years ago when Bob Schumacher took Iron Duck to 116 mph in March 1999 on the same lake.

For his next stunt, Richard Jenkins plans to take a different Ecotricity Greenbird on the ice to establish a new speed record on this kind of surface.
