GM 7 speed Dual clutch Transmission

 »  »  »

General Motors filed a patent for a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on September 19th, 2013. According to GM, the new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox has three axes and it can accommodate seven or more gear speeds. This means that in the future, GM may develop an 8-speed transmission too. The drawings show GM's new dual-clutch gearbox, which features a park gear mounted on a separate park shaft. We're not really sure which models are going to receive the new 7-speed DCT transmission yet. However, we can speculate that some of GM's high-performance models, like the Chevrolet Corvette might receive it in the future. The future generation Corvette ZR1 could be the one getting the new trick gearbox.

Dual-clutch transmission offer faster shift times, thanks to the fact that the next gear is already selected in the transmission, before it shifts.

We'll have more details about GM's new 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox as soon as they're available.
