VW has launched at the Detroit auto show their new Compact Coupe concept which previews the next generation Volkswagen Jetta. Today, the German carmaker has announced it will debut their R performance division at the Geneva motor show. Putting the two together might mean we'll see the Volkswagen Jetta R in the near future. The power of the Volkswagen Jetta R could come from the same engine as the new on the new Golf R. This means the Volkswagen Jetta R will hide under its hood a 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged engine that develops 270 PS and 350 Nm of torque. The top speed of the Volkswagen Jetta R will be limited to 250 km/h and the new compact car could get to 100 km/h in around five and a half seconds.
The Volkswagen Jetta R will still be front-wheel-drive, but the AWD version is not entirely out of the question.
The manage the extra power, the Volkswagen Jetta R would be equipped with better brakes and a more rigid suspension system. Exterior styling modifications are possible since the Volkswagen Jetta R would have to differentiate from its, less powerful, siblings.
