VW has recently launched its R performance division, and it seems it wants to go after the X5M and X6M, sort of. Recently, the initial Volkswagen Touareg R info has surfaced the web and if it turns out to be true, BMW's got their hands full. Apparently, the Volkswagen Touareg R will use a new V8 engine developing 500 hp. This is 55 hp less than the bimmers. But this is not the end of the story. The Volkswagen Touareg R will actually be a hybrid and it will also have an electric motor developing an additional 47 hp. The total? 547 hp! Now the Volkswagen Touareg R is just 8 hp shy of an X6M. How about that?
VW's current electric motor, used on the Touareg V6 Hybrid, is limited to 47 hp. The version used for the Volkswagen Touareg R might not get this
limitation, which means that if it will become a reality, the performance SUV will have even more horsepowers under its belly.
The Volkswagen Touareg R will also have a new aerodynamics package, bigger brakes and a stiffer suspension setup. The interior of the Volkswagen Touareg R might also get an upgrade, with higher quality materials and more technology.
We'll have more details on the Volkswagen Touareg R as soon, and if, they become available.
