Chris Harris reviews the new McLaren 12C Spider on the Ascari race track in Spain. Usually, open-top versions are quite a bit heavier than their hard-top counterparts. However, this is not the case of the McLaren 12C Spider. Thanks to a few innovations, and a lot of carbon fiber, the 12C Spider is just 40kg heavier than the MP4-12C coupe. The 616 bhp 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine of the 12C Spider manages to make this weight difference even more insignificant when it comes to performance.
