McLaren 12C Spider

As promised, McLaren revealed today the open top version of the MP4-12C, which is called simply the 12C Spider. The 12C Spider is equipped with an RHT folding roof and not with a soft canvas top, as said by earlier rumors. As we expected, the McLaren 12C Spider is powered by the same engine as the MP4-12C hardtop. It has a 3.8-litre V8 twin turbo engine and a 7-speed SSG dual-clutch transmission. With an output of 625 PS/616 bhp, the McLaren 12C Spider is able to get from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.1 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 204 mph (329 km/h). The 0-62 mph acceleration of the 12C Spider matches the one of the coupe, however, its top speed is 3 mph lower. The 12C Spider is also 0.1 seconds slower to 100 mph (161 km/h) and 0.2 seconds slower to 124 mph (200 km/h).

These differences are so small you probably won't even notice them. The McLaren 12C Spider is rated with a 24.2 EU mpg (11.7 l / 100 km) fuel economy and a 279 g/km CO2 emissions level. The McLaren 12C Spider's price for the UK market starts at £195,500 and it's already available for ordering here.

McLaren's 12C Spider is built on the same carbon MonoCell chassis (75kg) as its hard-top sibling and it's equipped with Brake Steer, ProActive Chassis Control, the carmaker's Airbrake system and a Roll Over Protection System.

The spider version of the 12C weighs just 40 kg more than the fixed top model. The extra weight is added by the folding roof mechanism. The roof requires 17 seconds for opening and closing, and it can be operated at speeds of up to 19 mph (30 km/h). Behind the seats, there's a retractable windscreen, which is used as a wind deflector. When the roof is up, you'll have an additional 52 liters of luggage space.

At the interior, the McLaren 12C Spider comes with semi-aniline perforated leather and Alcantara.
