The McLaren 12C GT Can-Am special edition has been revealed over the weekend and the carmaker announced it's going to build 30 of them. McLaren revealed the 12C GT Can-Am edition as a concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance last summer and because of its success, they announced putting it into production during the 2012 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. This very special 12C GT pays tribute to Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme who raced in the Can-Am series. The Can-Am McLaren 12C GT is built to be the "ultimate track car" so it won't have to comply with the same racing regulations as the 12C GT3 race car. This means it will probably not be road legal either. McLaren's Can-Am 12C GT Can-Am is powered by the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which has been tuned to develop 630 hp.

To get the extra horsepower, McLaren re-programed the supercar's ECU and optimized its cooling system. The Can-Am 12C GT is the most powerful MP4-12C produced at the moment.

McLaren gives the 12C GT Can-Am special aerodynamics, which include a large carbon fiber rear wing that offers 30% more downforce, a new front spoiler, modified hood and wheel arches to provide better cooling for the engine and brakes, and a new rear diffuser. The 12C GT Can-Am also features new side radiator intake vanes, sill covers and badges.

The 12C GT Can-Am sits on black satin-finished forged lightweight racing alloy wheels and Pirelli tires. At the interior, McLaren fits the Can-Am 12C with a full FIA-approved race-specification rollcage, black bucket race seats, six-point harnesses, and the same steering wheel as the one on the 12C GT3 race car. For extra comfort, McLaren equips the 12C Can-Am with an air conditioning system integrated into the car's carbon fiber dashboard.

The McLaren 12C GT Can-Am's price is set at £375,000 GBP. The race car will go into production in March 2013.
