McLaren MP4 12C vs F1 Video

 »  »  »

The British journalists from Autocar conducted the comparison test we've all been waiting for: the McLaren MP4-12C versus its predecessor, the McLaren F1. The video was filmed on the race track, where they compared McLaren's MP4-12C and F1 in various aspects. The McLaren F1 was one of the first hypercars to ever come on the market. It entered production in 1992 and at a price of 540,000 GBP, it was the most expensive car at that time.

The McLaren F1 was powered by a 6064 cc BMW V12 engine and it was the first ever road going vehicle to have a full carbon fiber monocoque chassis. McLaren's F1 develops more than 600 hp and needs only 3.2 seconds for the 0 to 60 mph acceleration. Even in today's numbers, that is still mind blowing performance.

The newcomer, the McLaren MP4-12C, is powered by a 3.8 liter V8 engine that outputs 600 hp and 600 Nm of torque. This means that, at least on paper, the MP4-12C and the F1 have roughly the same power. When it comes to the price however, the F1 is still in the lead. The base price for the new McLaren MP4-12C starts at 125,000 GBP.
