2013 Porsche 911 GT3 Gets Mid Engine

 »  »  »

Various sources have reported recently that the future generation, 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 might get a mid-engine architecture. If this is the case, it means the 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 will change the whole history of the 911, which has been, since it's first generation, a rear engine sports car. The rumor goes on to say that the 2013 Porsche 911 GT3, a driver's car in essence, will not be offered with the 6-speed manual transmission. Instead, the 2013 911 GT3 will only get the PDK, double-clutch, gearbox. Somehow, we find it hard to believe that Porsche will change its entire 911 strategy, and lose the rear engine layout for a more conventional mid-engine one. Porsche is known for being reluctant to change, and this architecture has been with the 911 for decades.

Some are expecting the future generation 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 to get a the KERS system. Recent developments suggest that the future GT3 will not receive such technology. Porsche will keep the hybrid KERS system only for the 918 RSR that was revealed a few weeks back.

The 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 is expected to get a larger, 4.0-liter engine, which will send around 480 hp to the wheels.

We'll have more details on the 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 as soon as they're available.
