2014 Ford Focus RS Info

The initial info on the 2014 Ford Focus RS has been uncovered as the future generation model is about two years away from its premiere. Apparently, the 2014 Focus RS will be a completely different type of beast. Even though it will be powered by a smaller displacement, 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged engine, the 2014 Focus RS will output almost 80 hp more than the current versions. Our sources claim that the future Focus RS will develops as much as 380 hp. If this will be the case, it means that the Focus RS will go way past the hot hatch segment, getting closer to the likes of BMW's M3. The 380 hp projected output is more than the most powerful version of the model currently available on the market - the very limited edition Ford Focus RS500.

With 380 hp under its hood, the 2014 Ford Focus RS is expected to rocket from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and to reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

Of course, if the Blue Oval is going to cram almost 400 hp into the small body of the Focus RS, it will have to come up with a very clever suspension system. That amount of power is just simply too much for a front wheel drive car. Maybe they will consider an AWD (all-wheel-drive) version of the Focus RS in the future.

Gunnar Herrmann, the man in charge of the Focus RS, thinks that the future, 2014, generation model could handle 380 hp, even with a FWD system. What are they going to do about torque steer? Herrmann says they will give the 2014 Focus RS an updated version of the RevoKnuckle suspension, together with a modified McPherson front strut suspension system. Herrmann is also confident that the chassis of the Focus RS can handle all that power without any problems.

We'll have more details on the future generation Ford Focus RS as soon as they're available.
