Audi A5 DTM Concept

 »  »  »

At the end of last week, Audi released the first sketches showing their future DTM race car, which is based on the new A5. Even though Audi calls it a concept, this is pretty much how the future DTM A5 will look like. Audi announced that they will display the new A5 DTM Concept at the Frankfurt Auto show this fall, before the car's racing debut in the 2012 German Touring Car Championship season. Audi's new DTM race car is based on the A5 coupe and is called internally the "R17". Previously, Audi won the DTM championship title four times, with the help of the four-door A4.

Audi's DTM A5 is very similar to the BMW M3 DTM Concept, also unveiled over the last weekend. The A5 DTM is built on a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, and it features a steel roll-cage.

Its power comes from a V8 engine, which has a slightly lower output than the unit in the M3. Audi rates it at 460 hp. The A5 DTM concept has an equally extreme aerodynamics package and comes with a 6-speed sequential transmission.

We'll have ore details and images of the Audi A5 DTM concept as soon as the four-ring car maker makes them available.
