The rumors of a long wheelbase version of the Audi A6 have long been circulating, and this week, the Ingolstadt carmaker has decided to confirm them. The Audi A6L was revealed as an e-tron hybrid concept. The Audi A6L measures 5.02 meters (16.47 feet) in length, 1.87 meters (6.14 feet) in width and 1.46 meters (4.79 feet) in height. It has a 3.01-meter (9.88 feet) wheelbase. This means that the Audi A6L is 95 mm longer, and has a 98-mm longer wheelbase than the regular A6. Audi's extended wheelbase A6L comes with a long roofline LED headlights, 21-inch wheels and a special rear diffuser. Even though it's a rather large vehicle, the Audi A6L weighs around 15% less than other comparable sedans, thanks to a lightweight construction, which uses 10% aluminum. Apart from aluminum, Audi also uses carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) technology for building the A6L.
The Audi A6L e-Tron concept is powered by a parallel hybrid system, which uses a 2.0 TFSI internal combustion engine (155 kW / 211 hp) and an electric motor (70 kW / 95 hp). On a full charge of its liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, the Audi A6L e-Tron can run in electric-only mode, at 60 km/h (37.28 mph), for up to 80 km (49.71 miles).
We'll have all the details of the Audi A6L as soon as the German carmaker releases them.
