Audi Q6 Goes After BMW X6

 »  »  »

Today's second rumor regarding Audi's future product plans involves a competitor for the BMW X6. Can you guess how will they call it? The Audi Q6 will be a four-door, five-seat crossover / SUV that will come with four-wheel-drive and both petrol and diesel engines. Audi's Q6 will be built on Volkswagen Group's Colorado platform, which is currently shared by the Porsche Cayenne and the new VW Touareg. The Q6 is expected to have a 3-meter wheelbase which means it will fall between the Q7 and the Q5 in Audi's model line-up.

The rumors of an Audi Q6 first started to appear quite a while back, but now there are stronger signals than ever that it will go on sale at some point.

Rupert Stadler, the big boss of the German four-ring car manufacturer, stated recently that the Q6 will have a coupe-like body that will compete directly with BMW's X6. Audi's decision to build the Q6 is influenced by the United States and Chinese markets, where the X6 sales are two times higher than predicted.

The Audi Q6 will be put on sale in the USA with a choice between gasoline and diesel engines, with a hybrid powertrain coming later in the model's life. The Q6 hybrid will probably share the similar powertrains found in the new Cayenne and the 2011 Touareg.

To go a little bit further with the speculations, we could also see an Audi Q6 RS, which will go head to head with BMW's X6M.

We'll have more details on the Audi Q6 as soon as they're available.
