BMW 135i And 335i Get Power Kits

 »  »  »

BMW launched this week in the United states new power kits for both the 135i coupe and the 335i 3 Series. BMW's new official power upgrades are available at promotional prices until the end of 2011! The Version 1 Power Kit, which can be installed on both the BMW 135i and the 335i, is priced at 599 USD MSRP, while the Version 2 Power Kit will cost you 1,199 USD MSRP. Through new program, the 335i and the 135i can be retrofitted via the Port Installation Program or at any BMW center across the U.S.

The Version 1 Power Kit for the 335i / 135i includes a new, and optimized, engine software, while Version 2 includes an ECU upgrade, an Auxiliary Water Cooler and an Enhanced Radiator Fan. Both systems offered with Version 2 are

meant to keep the engine cool during sporty driving.

With the new power kit installed, the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine of the 335i / 135i outputs 320 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque (automatic) or 317 lb-ft (manual or DCT transmission). Thanks to the extra umpf, the BMW 335i is 0.2 seconds faster to 60 mph, while the BMW 135i does the 0-60 mph trip 0.5 seconds faster than the regular model.

Apart from the extra horsepowers, the new power kit for the 135i and 335i Bimmers also includes a modified exhaust, which emits a "burble" sound. BMW assures us that even with their new package installed, the 135i and the 335i keep their original emission certification, fuel economy and warranty. What we're wondering is why didn't they make these models with more power from the beginning...
