BMW M goes diesel

 »  »  »

A diesel BMW M model? What is the world coming to? According to a recent rumor, BMW is considering the possibility of introducing diesel engines on its performance M models. Ever since BMW invented the M version they all have been gasoline powered, high performance machines which were built only to put a big smile on your face. We're wondering if a diesel BMW M3 will offer quite the same result.

Apparently, the diesel BMW M rumor started with a statement from Albert Biermann, BMW's development boss. Biermann said this possibility is considered due to European emissions regulations, but they will not put a diesel engine in an M car until its performance matches the one of the gasoline units.

The first models "threatened" to become a diesel are the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M and the smaller ones could come next if the customers will show an interest.

Biermann also unveiled a few details on the BMW Z4 M which is to receive a 4.0 liter V8 engine.
