BMW M4 GTS

BMW revealed today the new M4 GTS, and from the looks of it, it appears their engineers and designers were really busy lately. The new BMW M4 GTS aims to continue the tradition started by the M1 and the CSL. BMW says that the M4 GTS showcases new technologies, which are going to be revealed, when the time comes. They did mention two of them however: a water injection system (which has already proven itself in the BMW M4 MotoGP safety car) and their latest OLED organic light-emitting diodes. BMW says you'll have to see them in the dark. BMW built the M4 GTS as a track machine, that can be used on the road too. It comes with a manually adjustable front splitter and rear wing, both made of carbon, obviously, a carbon bonnet, 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, in orange, and a matt gray paint to cover it all.

As you can imagine, the power comes from the 3.0-liter straight six engine. They did not mention the horsepower and torque output. But they offer a few insights. No, the water injection system does not just spray it on the intercooler. It injects it directly into the intake manifold. To keep this system going, apart from the main radiator, they're using additional ones for the high- and low-temperature circuits, transmission and turbocharger. To keep the turbos cool the system uses an additional intercooler and an electric water pump. This is complicated!

BMW does not explain much about the OLED rear lights of the M4 GTS. However, they do mention that the OLED lights are expected to bring "a new era in light design and lighting concepts". Apparently, the OLEDs are able to do the job of the daytime running lights, and to be just as useful during the night.

We will have more details about the BMW M4 GTS as soon as they are available. If you're close to Monterey, California, the M4 GTS Bimmer should be there, at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
