BMW revealed at the end of last week the new M4 Convertible, which is going to have its world debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. The BMW M4 Convertible's price for the USA market starts at $73,425. The new open-top M4 will go on sale in the U.S. this summer. The BMW M4 Convertible's price for the UK market starts at £60,730 OTR. Here the new M4 cabriolet is set to go on sale on 6 September 2014. The M4 Convertible's price for other markets, as well as its availability are going to be announced at a later date. BMW's official specs of the new convertible M4 say that it's powered by a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine that features two mono-scroll turbochargers, high-precision direct injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable camshaft control.
The convertible M4 Bimmer develops 431 hp at 7,300rpm and 550Nm of torque from 1,850rpm. According to BMW's specifications, the M4 convertible can accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds when equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission, or 4.4 seconds when equipped with the 7-speed M DCT gearbox. Its top speed is limited at 155 mph (250 km/h). In terms of efficiency, the M4 convertible is rated with a 31.0 (32.5) mpg fuel economy and a 213 (203) g/km CO2 emissions (UK figures). For the USA market, the M4 convertible is rated with an output of 425 hp between 5,500 and 7,300 rpm and 406 lb-ft of torque between 1,850–5,500 rpm.
The USA version of the M4 convertible needs 4.4 (4.2) seconds to get to 60 mph. The M DCT transmission of the M4 convertible it's an optional extra that is going to cost you £2,645 GBP in Britain.
The BMW M4 Convertible is 60kg lighter than the outgoing M3 Convertible, which means it weighs 1,750kg. This means it's more efficient and agile. To be able to keep the weight of the M4 convertible down, BMW used aluminum for the bonnet, front wings and many of the chassis components, as well as carbon fiber for the propeller shaft and strut brace. The M4 Convertible comes equipped with EfficientDynamics technologies, which include Auto Start-Stop, Optimum Shift Indicator (in manual mode only with the M DCT transmission), Brake Energy Regeneration, on-demand operation of ancillary units, a map-controlled oil pump and a final drive with optimized warm-up behavior.
