Various sources are reporting today that China bans the Renault Laguna, Megane and Scenic for a number of safety issues. China has temporarily stopped the import of the Renault Laguna, Megane and Scenic because they do not comply with its safety standards, but does not mention which ones. The Chinese government’s press release says only the Renault models have many safety issues.
The models affected by the Chinese ban include the Scenic, Laguna 2 and the Megane 2. All these models have been tested by the Euro NCAP and have received the maximum possible score - five stars. Their safety is actually one of the strongest marketing tool for these Renault models.
The Chinese government’s decision is strange to say the least. In our opinion they just try to protect their domestic carmakers against the strong competition coming from Europe.
