Cruise RP 1 Self Driving Car System

 »  »  »

A start-up company called Cruise revealed today the RP-1 self-driving car system, which can be fitted on any vehicle. The Cruise RP-1 enables any car to drive itself using a Sensor Pod that gets mounted on the roof. Cruise RP-1's Sensor Pod sees the road and cars around you using a combination of cameras, radar, and other measurement devices. All the information gathered by the Sensor Pod is transferred to a central computer for analysis. The Cruise RP-1's central computer makes real time decisions. It is mounted into the boot of the vehicle and takes up less than two feet of space. The central computer uses complex vision algorithms to steer and drive the car autonomously. To control the Cruise RP-1, the driver uses a simple switch that turns the system off and on.

Cruise did not yet disclose the price of the RP-1 self-driving car system. We'll have more details about this innovation as soon as they're available.
