Audi officially revealed today the R8 GT Spyder, which will be built in limited numbers. In comparison to the standard R8 Spyder, Audi's new GT is more powerful, lighter and quite a lot faster. The Audi R8 GT Spyder is powered by the 5.2-liter FSI V10 engine featuring an aluminum crankcase, a direct fuel injection system, and dry-sump lubrication. The official specs of the R8 GT Spyder say it develops 412 kW (560 hp) and 540 Nm (398.28 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine of the R8 GT Spyder is coupled with Audi's automated six-speed R tronic transmission and the quattro all-wheel-drive system. The quattro system of the Audi R8 GT Spyder has a strong rear-wheel bias and works together with the limited slip diff for increased traction during cornering.

The Spyder version of the Audi R8 GT is able to get from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 317 km/h (196.97 mph).

The extra performance of the R8 GT Spyder is not the result of just the increased output of the engine. The supercar is also 85 kilograms lighter than the standard Audi R8 V10 Spyder. The cover of the soft-top compartment, and the side panels at the rear are made from carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, which saves 5.5 kilograms (12.13 lb). The bucket seats of the Audi R8 GT Spyder alone save

31.5 kilograms (69.45 lb) of weight.

In comparison to the standard version of the open-top R8, the Audi's new GT Spyder sits 10 millimeters (0.39 in) closer to the ground and features 19-inch wheels with carbon ceramic brakes.

The Audi R8 GT Spyder price list starts at 207,800 EUR and the manufacturer will build only 333 units.
