The Ingolstadt car maker has announced today the Audi R8 GT USA price list and the fact that only 90 units will ever reach the United States shores. Worldwide, Audi's R8 GT will be sold in 333 units. The GT version of the R8 is powered by the 5.2-liter V10 FSI engine that develops 560 hp, which is 35 hp more than both the standard R8 V10 Coupe and the R8 Spyder. The engine is mated to Audi's R tronic sequential manual transmission. In terms of performance, the USA version of the supercar matches the European Audi R8 GT. The 0 to 62 mph acceleration time requires 3.6 seconds and the top speed is rated at 199 mph.
Apart from the extra power, the Audi R8 GT is also lighter than the standard version.
Thanks to various carbon fiber parts, the GT is 180 pounds lighter than the R8 V10 Coupe and also has a lower center of gravity. This shows its benefits in the corners. The Audi R8 GT's new carbon parts include the rear hatch, spoiler and diffuser.
The supercar is equipped with the quattro all-wheel-drive system and has a 43/57 front/rear axle load distribution. Audi fitted the R8 GT with an axle-load-optimized torque split in the front differential and a self-locking differential in the rear axle.
The Audi R8 GT USA price list starts at 196,800 USD, which does not include the 1,250 USD destination charge, taxes, title, options and dealer charges. In the United States, the R8 GT is much more affordable than in Europe, where it's price list starts at 193,000 Euro - equivalent of around 268,000 USD.
