A North American company announced today that it has revitalized the Detroit Electric brand, and that it will soon launch a new sports car under this name. Detroit Electric is going to have its headquarters in Detroit's iconic Fisher Building and its production facilities in Michigan, USA. Detroit Electric announced that it plans to launch a limited-edition two-seat 100% electric sports car next month. Apparently, this new sport car has been under development for the last five years. Detroit Electric's new sports car promises to offer bold styling, outstanding performance, and good handling. It is going to be revealed next month in Detroit, before its global premiere, which is scheduled for the Shanghai Motor Show on 20 April, 2013.
Detroit Electric says it has partnered with a major carmaker for building and developing their new sports car. Judging from the shape of the headlights, we could speculate that Detroit Electric's new model could be based on the new SRT Viper.
The new electric sports car will go on sale by end of August 2013. Detroit Electric plans to develop and manufacture high-performance models that will enter production by end of 2014. We'll have all the details and photos of Detroit Electric's new sport car in April.
