The British firm called Ilmor Engineering has announced that it has built a new 5 stroke engine concept that runs on gasoline. the company said the goal of the Ilmor 5 stroke engine is to offer the same fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as a diesel engine. The Ilmor 5 stroke engine is turbocharged, has a 700cc capacity and develops 130 bhp at 7000 rpm and 166 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm.
The Ilmor 5 stroke engine features a prototype cast cylinder head and separate electrically powered oil and water pumps. The Ilmor 5 stroke engine is fitted with 2 overhead camshafts that operate a conventional coil spring valvegear with the HP camshaft running at 0.5 x crank speed and the LP camshaft running at 1 x crank speed.
