Biggest Engine In The World: 109,000 hp

The Finish engineers from Wartsila built what could be the biggest and most powerful engine in the world. It's as tall as a four-story building and has an output of, and this is not a joke, 109,000 hp at 102 rpm and 7,600,000 Nm of torque (that's 7.6 million Nm). The engine is a 14-cylinder common-rail diesel unit that measures 13.4 m in height and 27.4 m in length. It weighs 2,300 tons and a 1,820-liter displacement.

This monster engine powers one of the biggest transport ships in the world, the Emma Maersk, which can reach a top speed of 31 nautical miles per hour. Even though this doesn't sound like much, you must take into consideration the fact that a ship like this usually has a maximum speed of 18 - 20 nautical miles per hour.

To get an image of just how big this ships is, it's enough to tell you that it's 50% larger than the Titanic, and that it weighs 170.000 tons.

Here's something for the environmental activists. This engine requires 0.19 liters of diesel for every rotation, which means it has a fuel consumption of 271.32 liters per minute.
