2008 Engine of the Year Nominees

The 2008 Engine of the Year nominees have been announced today and it seem that BMW has some serious competitors this year. Some of the most ilustrious competitors for BMW at the International 2008 Engine of the Year award are Subaru’s first diesel, Nissan GT-R's 3.8-litre twin-turbo and the 2-litre turbo engine in the new EVO X.

Europe's best this year include Audi's 5.0 liter V10, Fiat's 1.4-litre Turbo, and Volvo's 3-litre turbo from the V70.

North America hopes to get the 2008 Engine of the Year award with either the 6.2-litre turbo from the Corvette ZR1 and Cadillac CTS-V or Chrysler's 1.8-litre joint effort with Mitsubishi and Hyundai.

BMW hopes to get Engine of the Year award, again, with the 4-litre V8 that powers the mighty M3, and the 2-litre twin-turbo diesel, housed in the 123d. Our guess is that they will succeed.

The 2008 Engine of the Year Awards will be decided by 65 automotive journalists from 32 countries and will be announced on Wednesday 7 May at Engine Expo 2008, held in Stuttgart 6-8 May 2008.
